I’ve been thinking about Hell, and how it works.
This started when I was thinking about how at the end of the day, the Devil must feel completely desperate. I know if I’m in a competition or video game and I’m being surrounded and out-numbered, I get desperate when I know I’m going to lose. That has already happened to him. It’s just a matter of time.
That is probably part of the reason he wanted the Earth to fall, so he had a little more ground. It’s cool to think there might be other planets out there that are unfallen, or there are parts of creation hanging in the balance.
Then I was was thinking about where the Devil resides. I’ve always thought of Hell as a place devoid of the presence of God. But if God is the creator of everything, how can there be a place where he isn’t? A place that someone else can claim as theirs? A place God can’t go?
The bottom line, I think, is that God is a gentleman. If He isn’t welcome in a place, He won’t go there. So maybe Hell is a place that He has left. So what if a lost soul in Hell decided they wanted God? Could he meet them there? The real question there is the finality of death. Could someone be saved after they die? Who knows.
This is like something from an epic story or fantasy. It’s weird to think of it as real in our everyday, mundane lives.
